Join Our Team

At Simply Ed, we believe every NYC public school student deserves the attention, support, and encouragement they need to thrive — and so do you. As an Elementary Math & ELA Teacher’s Assistant at P.S. 28 Mount Hope, you’ll play a vital role in helping English as a New Language (ENL) students across Grades K–5 strengthen their academic skills, develop confidence, and engage more fully in classroom learning.

This role focuses on providing push-in Math and ELA support specifically for ENL students, working alongside classroom teachers to help students understand grade-level concepts while navigating the language demands of their coursework. You'll reinforce foundational literacy and mathematical skills, clarify instructions and academic vocabulary, and provide individualized attention to students who may benefit from additional language and academic support.

Because this position supports students across the full K–5 grade range, strong proficiency in both Math and ELA is essential. You should be comfortable adapting your explanations and instructional approaches for students with different levels of English language proficiency, helping them build academic understanding while developing the confidence to participate in classroom activities.

  • Aligned scheduling – Consistent weekday hours that follow the NYC DOE school calendar.

What You’ll Do

As a Simply Ed Elementary Math & ELA Teacher’s Assistant, you will:

  • Provide push-in classroom support during Math and ELA instruction for ENL students across Grades K–5.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide targeted academic support that aligns with daily instruction and students' language development needs.
  • Offer one-on-one and small-group support within the classroom to help ENL students understand instructions, engage with lessons, and apply grade-level concepts.
  • Reinforce foundational ELA skills, including phonics, reading fluency, reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking.
  • Reinforce foundational Math skills, including number sense, operations, place value, fractions, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving strategies.
  • Help students understand academic vocabulary and subject-specific terminology, particularly when unfamiliar English language structures make classroom material more challenging.
  • Use clear explanations, visual supports, modeling, and other accessible instructional strategies to reinforce student understanding.
  • Adjust academic support to accommodate different grade levels, English language proficiency levels, and individual learning needs.
  • Encourage students to participate in classroom discussions, ask questions, and communicate their understanding with greater confidence.
  • Help students work through challenging assignments while encouraging independence and continued academic growth.
  • Help manage classroom routines and foster a welcoming, supportive learning environment.
  • Monitor student progress and share observations with teachers and staff.
  • Assist with organizing materials and preparing instructional resources.
  • Attend required training sessions and staff meetings.
